From Our Founder

A Letter From the Publisher

Dear lovers of reading and lovers of young readers, Like most of you, it was in books that I discovered the world and began to discover myself. I would escape to the pond over sunny summer holidays and to the warmth of the cozy confines of the hayloft on cold winter days with a book. I traveled to Middle Earth. I explored Wonderland. And even made a temporary home on William Golding’s uninhabited tropical island setting of Lord of the Flies.

Then with my own children, we spend A Year Down Yonder in Richard Peck’s Depression era Midwestern United States. We visited 12th century Korea guided by Linda Sue Park in A Single Shard. And of course we attended Hogwarts for seven glorious terms. We live in a time where books have become political. They are social tools, even weapons. A book should be something else. Despite the different age we live in now, a book still has the magical ability to transport a reader anywhere…and me back to an old, red barn in a meadow to that very same hayloft of my youth. With Hayloft Books, my team and I want to encourage young readers to explore. To ask questions. To become thinkers. Grantham H. Ellicott, Publisher

Sanctuary of Thought

We seek narratives that ignite imagination and transport readers to new realms, encouraging unguided discovery.

Stories must invite critical thinking, prompting young minds to ask better questions about the world and themselves.

We champion timeless prose and compelling characters, honoring the art of storytelling above all.

Our books provide a refuge for reflection, free from didacticism or fleeting trends.
